BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To drive the growth and sustainability of the recycling operation by generating leads, securing new contracts, expanding and managing the supplier base, and engaging with the logistics and support staff that facilitate smooth collections and administration.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead generation and growth

• Identify and pursue new business opportunities in the recycling sector focusing primarily on Informal and Commercial sources including any other directives that occur and in line with imposed criteria relating to tonnage and needs.
• Engage potential suppliers through cold calls, site visits, referrals, and marketing initiatives in line with desired growth markets above.
• Conduct site audits to assess recyclables potential and present recycling solutions to prospective clients

Securing Recycling contracts

• Prepare proposals, service agreements, and presentations tailored to the supplier’s waste profile and requirements.
• Negotiate contract terms and ensure alignment with company objectives and operational capacity.
• Onboard new suppliers and ensure service- level agreements are implemented effectively.

Market intelligence & analysis

• Monitor industry trends, competitor activities and provide regular market feedback to management to support pricing, product development, and strategic planning.

Supplier relationship management

• Partner with community groups, NGOs, or municipal bodies to expand informal waste collector networks.
• Understand logistical operations with the view of providing support on an adhoc basis.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

• Matric minimum, preferred diploma/degree in Procurement or similar fields.
• Two (2) – five (5) years’ experience/exposure to sales, procurement, or business development.
• Experience in waste management or recycling sector is highly advantageous
• Valid driver’s license with vehicle and willingness to travel locally and regionally for site visits
